What Do HbA1c Results Mean?

Normal range: Below 5.7% — indicates good blood sugar control.

Prediabetes range: 5.7% to 6.4% — suggests you may be at risk for developing diabetes.

Diabetes range: 6.5% or higher — indicates diabetes or that blood sugar management may need improvement.

Important: Westwind Does Not Diagnose Diabetes

Westwind Integrated Health does not use HbA1c screening to diagnose diabetes. If your HbA1c results are elevated or suggest a concern, we will recommend that you follow up with your physician or primary care provider for a formal diagnosis and treatment plan.

Do I Need HbA1c Testing Before Every Dental Visit?

No, not before every visit. HbA1c testing is required at your initial comprehensive exam appointment and before major procedures such as dental implant placement, extensive periodontal (gum) treatment, oral surgery, and complex restorative work.
